Senior Shoots

Some of my favorite photo sessions are senior shoots. These young ladies and young men most always love to have their picture taken (thus the selfies!) They are fun, resilient, and up most for most anything, even willing to get dirty in some of the not so elegant of locations!

The following are a couple of senior shoots we did in 2016 with details on the shots and locations.

This is Payton. We took these in downtown Bristol,TN in an awesome graffiti alley and at an abandoned warehouse. Loved this shoot!

This is Hiyjah. We took these at the VA in Johnson City, TN. Love the Fall Colors. She is such a sweetheart!

This is Alena. These were taken in downtown Greeneville, TN at an abandoned warehouse dock. It had a creek that ran behind it and these large rocks. It was a gorgeous place to shoot with this young lady!

I love my job, I love being able to offer my clients affordable, beautiful, one of a kind images that they love! Are you a Senior or do you have a Senior and need Photos? Visit us here: www.nandnphotoshoot.com

Happy New Year!

A Maternity Session by the River

My husband and I recently shot a Maternity Session by the Nolichucky River in Limestone, TN. Just one town over from where we live. This sweet couple, we met at a wedding that we photographed over this past summer. The white dress she bought online and the flowers and head wreath were made by my sweet and crafty sister law. The mother to be’s makeup was done masterfully, by my own personal makeup artist, Justine Faatuai.

My husband wanted to shoot from a boat in the river, so he did! I regret not getting a photo of him in the kayak shooting. I was trying to not get him in my shots while I was shooting their portraits with the river in the background, respectively. I didn’t want to be photo shopping him out later!

I really enjoyed this shoot and was able to pose romantically, sweet, and dreamy.

It is a beautiful and magical time for a family to be having a baby. It was an honor for us to take these photos for these sweet and endearing couple. To see the complete shoot, you can follow this link: gallery.nandngallery.com  -Nichole Whitburn, N&N Photography www.nandnphotoshoot.com

Wedding Day Details

I love to shoot wedding day details! The bouquet, the shoes, the rings, the boutonniere, etc. As a matter of fact, it is my personal favorite thing to shoot on the wedding day. I have always loved shooting macro photography and being a wedding photographer, shooting the details gives me a chance to do this on a personal level for my client.

I always ask the bride to have her wedding planner or the friend/family member who is decorating or helping in the wedding planning process, to have the brides bouquet, the rings, an invitation or announcement, and any additional details that she would like to have photographed, ready for me when I arrive at the venue. I then photograph these small details before any action begins at all so that they can be returned quickly to the bride and groom while they are getting ready.

I will sometimes have the opportunity to photograph other details during the reception when the bride and groom are eating and mingling with guests. I try to take some creative shots of the bouquet in areas where there is a beautiful and winning background. I will also walk around the entire venue getting those very important wedding and reception details shots.

I love letting my creativity and vision shine through my wedding photography and no matter what your genre of art, always let your own personal creativity shine through.-Nichole Whitburn -N&N Photography

Getting Fat While Editing/Ice Cream and Photoshop

img_1830
{Photography by: N&N Photography}

I have gained 10 pounds (okay, much more) since I have become a photographer. I have a tendency to munch away while I edit, chocolate bars and caramel ice-cream are my favorites. I think to myself that while I am out on a shoot, I am burning it all off, but no, that does not seem to be the case. I seem to be working extra hard at gaining the weight mindlessly, but not good at losing it mindfully. I know that I have to snack healthier and I am sure I will someday gain control of this beast! (And this weight before it becomes one!)

A friend and I recently chatted about my very obvious weight gain and she said to me, “It’s a small price to pay for happiness.” After thinking about that statement for sometime, I realized I am happy and extremely blessed being able to do what I love; create beautiful and artful images. Weight, with a little effort, can come off, I just have to choose healthier snacking choices. But true happiness, is for me, non-negotiable and is not measured in pounds. -Nichole Whitburn, N&N Photography                                                 www.nandnphotoshoot.com

Does a Bride Really Need to Hire a Professional Makeup Artist?

As a Professional Wedding and Portrait photographer, I would most certainly say the answer to this question is Yes! I am not talking about a friend that just loves makeup or draws her eyeliner on evenly. And even if you have been doing your own makeup for years and feel confident that your makeup will look great on your special day, Consider this:

A Professional Makeup Artist knows the best colors, foundations, powders, matte formulas, etc. for all skin types and for all types of lighting. For indoor and outdoor portraits, close-ups shots, and makeup that is for sure to last through the Nae-Nae and the Electric Slide. And I am sure you still want that beautiful glow when your walking hand in hand, with your new husband, into your magical departure photos of the evening.

My husband and I have had the unfortunate job of edited  100+ photos of a bride who’s makeup had went horribly wrong. I am not talking about running mascara. Let’s just say that the right foundation color and the right setting powder makes all the difference in the world. A pro will make sure that your makeup is made for flash photography and looks great in any light. The morel of this story is: Don’t let your friends do your bridal makeup, (unless of course they are a professional makeup artist.)

My advice is to call a few pros in your area and give yourself plenty of time before your big day. Ask to see if they have a free trial session so that you can see if you like their work. Talk to them about the look you would like to achieve on your wedding day, be it natural, earthy, romantic, or all out dramatic glamour. Another thing about a pro, is that most of them will stay, for a reasonable amount of time, throughout the ceremony and reception to do touch ups. If you are in the East Tennessee area, feel free to contact us for a few we know who are excellent. Thank you, Congrats, and Good luck! -Nathan & Nichole Whitburn, N&N Photography; Professional Wedding, Portrait, and Event Photography

Radical/N&N Photography

A few days ago, my husband and I were taking a walk on the property around our home. My husband noticed a spider on a flower and pointed it out to me. I was in awe with this strange yet beautiful creature. A spider, a white spider, atop a flower, with beautiful purple markings on it’s back. I ran into the house quickly and grabbed my camera. In my life of 44 years I had never seen a spider like this. Reading and learning about it is also fascinating. http://www.spiders.us/species/misumena-vatia/

Since becoming a photographer, I now see the world in a radical new way. I look for the unusual, the small, the unique, most everywhere there is something that is shooting worthy. I am grateful to have captured this image. It is now one of my favorites in my library of shots. In some ways it also reminds my of an N&N Photography bride. Beautiful, Solid, a White dress, a Purple bouquet, and waiting for her prince.

Brides: Hire The Wedding Planner!

IMG_0614Brides: If you are thinking about hiring that wedding planner, don’t hesitate! Hire the Wedding Planner! I have been to and photographed weddings where the bridal party are Lost…Literally! They ask other professionals what to do, where to stand, how to line up, who goes first, in what order does all of this wedding stuff go? They ask the photographers, the dj, the pastor, or a friend, but who really knows the answer to all these questions? A wedding planner! Yes! If you have hired a professional photographer, a dj, a caterer, rented a venue, and spent money on everything else that is important to you for your special day, so is your wedding planner! He/She is one of the most important investments that you can make! They can help with so many things and outsource so many different jobs and communicate with other professionals so that you can relax and let it all fall into place! They help so much that they are, in my opinion, priceless!

Say No! To Cell Phones at your Wedding!

N&N Photography loves to shoot weddings! As professional photographers we take a lot of pictures, are paid to take the pictures, and have invested into the best equipment to take those photos. This past Spring, we photographed a wedding where the bride and groom posted clearly on their wedding invitations that they were having professional photographers present and asked people not to take pictures or video with their cell phones. Bravo! The people who attended were fully present for the ceremony and the reception and allowed us the room to take photos without hoards of people with cell phones trying to get our shots. The ones we planned, posed, and executed for the newly married couple. Last month we photographed a different wedding and the cell phones were as an extra appendage to nearly everyone there! And the worst? Someone sharing with me, the photos that they took with their cell phone of the happily married couple in the poses that we had just finished setting up and taking! So, I am sending out a message to All Brides To Be: Say NO! To Cell Phones at Your Wedding! It’s okay, those who love you will understand and will respect you more for it and your photographer will Thank You!IMG_0680
