I have gained 10 pounds (okay, much more) since I have become a photographer. I have a tendency to munch away while I edit, chocolate bars and caramel ice-cream are my favorites. I think to myself that while I am out on a shoot, I am burning it all off, but no, that does not seem to be the case. I seem to be working extra hard at gaining the weight mindlessly, but not good at losing it mindfully. I know that I have to snack healthier and I am sure I will someday gain control of this beast! (And this weight before it becomes one!)
A friend and I recently chatted about my very obvious weight gain and she said to me, “It’s a small price to pay for happiness.” After thinking about that statement for sometime, I realized I am happy and extremely blessed being able to do what I love; create beautiful and artful images. Weight, with a little effort, can come off, I just have to choose healthier snacking choices. But true happiness, is for me, non-negotiable and is not measured in pounds. -Nichole Whitburn, N&N Photography www.nandnphotoshoot.com
Just the thought of the cost of a wedding is daunting to most anyone. Most young women grow up dreaming of the fairy-tale wedding: the magnificent flowers, the ornate cake, the jaw-dropping designer dress, the cathedral, beach, or sunset. They think of all these things and the truth about all of these things is that they cost money.
Today’s weddings are steering away from the tradition that the brides family are those who will cover the cost. In this new and modern world we live in, the bride and groom are paying for nearly everything. Especially if it is the second or third time around and that’s okay. However, those who are on a limited budget and are paying for all of it themselves, are very careful about where they spend their money. You think about all of the things that you have to buy to make yourself and our venue beautiful and satisfying for your quests: the food, favors, flowers, decorations, cake, etc.
Most everything that has been bought and paid for for your special day is mostly all consumable or of one use or wear. And after the food is eaten, the flowers expire, everyone goes home, and the rentals are returned; what is it that will last forever other than your memories of the day? Your wedding day photography! Your beautiful images of all the important moments from your special day! Photographs of all the details, of the flowers, your dress, the cathedral, your hair, your makeup, the first dance, the beautiful cake, the first kiss as husband and wife, the amazing fun and laughter at the reception. One day that can not be recreated. Your wedding photography album is the only thing that will last and span generations for you and your families enjoyment.
Wedding photography package pricing can seem expensive at first glance, however when you are making a decision on wedding photography, think about why wedding photography is important to you and what you are looking for in a photographer. Also remember that you are paying a professional for their time, to capture all of those important moments as they unfold, and to edit and deliver them to you as beautifully packaged works of art. Some photographers offer payment plans to pay for your wedding photography package with payments over the course of your engagement, up until your wedding day. And if your wedding day is a year or longer away, you can start a savings plan for your wedding photography.
A Final Thought: The one most important thing to remember, is that your wedding photography should never be a place to cut back on when it comes to your budget. Your wedding day photographs are timeless memories of your love and memories are irreplaceable.

As a Professional Wedding and Portrait photographer, I would most certainly say the answer to this question is Yes! I am not talking about a friend that just loves makeup or draws her eyeliner on evenly. And even if you have been doing your own makeup for years and feel confident that your makeup will look great on your special day, Consider this:
A Professional Makeup Artist knows the best colors, foundations, powders, matte formulas, etc. for all skin types and for all types of lighting. For indoor and outdoor portraits, close-ups shots, and makeup that is for sure to last through the Nae-Nae and the Electric Slide. And I am sure you still want that beautiful glow when your walking hand in hand, with your new husband, into your magical departure photos of the evening.
My husband and I have had the unfortunate job of edited 100+ photos of a bride who’s makeup had went horribly wrong. I am not talking about running mascara. Let’s just say that the right foundation color and the right setting powder makes all the difference in the world. A pro will make sure that your makeup is made for flash photography and looks great in any light. The morel of this story is: Don’t let your friends do your bridal makeup, (unless of course they are a professional makeup artist.)
My advice is to call a few pros in your area and give yourself plenty of time before your big day. Ask to see if they have a free trial session so that you can see if you like their work. Talk to them about the look you would like to achieve on your wedding day, be it natural, earthy, romantic, or all out dramatic glamour. Another thing about a pro, is that most of them will stay, for a reasonable amount of time, throughout the ceremony and reception to do touch ups. If you are in the East Tennessee area, feel free to contact us for a few we know who are excellent. Thank you, Congrats, and Good luck! -Nathan & Nichole Whitburn, N&N Photography; Professional Wedding, Portrait, and Event Photography
A few days ago, my husband and I were taking a walk on the property around our home. My husband noticed a spider on a flower and pointed it out to me. I was in awe with this strange yet beautiful creature. A spider, a white spider, atop a flower, with beautiful purple markings on it’s back. I ran into the house quickly and grabbed my camera. In my life of 44 years I had never seen a spider like this. Reading and learning about it is also fascinating. http://www.spiders.us/species/misumena-vatia/
Since becoming a photographer, I now see the world in a radical new way. I look for the unusual, the small, the unique, most everywhere there is something that is shooting worthy. I am grateful to have captured this image. It is now one of my favorites in my library of shots. In some ways it also reminds my of an N&N Photography bride. Beautiful, Solid, a White dress, a Purple bouquet, and waiting for her prince.
Brides: If you are thinking about hiring that wedding planner, don’t hesitate! Hire the Wedding Planner! I have been to and photographed weddings where the bridal party are Lost…Literally! They ask other professionals what to do, where to stand, how to line up, who goes first, in what order does all of this wedding stuff go? They ask the photographers, the dj, the pastor, or a friend, but who really knows the answer to all these questions? A wedding planner! Yes! If you have hired a professional photographer, a dj, a caterer, rented a venue, and spent money on everything else that is important to you for your special day, so is your wedding planner! He/She is one of the most important investments that you can make! They can help with so many things and outsource so many different jobs and communicate with other professionals so that you can relax and let it all fall into place! They help so much that they are, in my opinion, priceless!
N&N Photography loves to shoot weddings! As professional photographers we take a lot of pictures, are paid to take the pictures, and have invested into the best equipment to take those photos. This past Spring, we photographed a wedding where the bride and groom posted clearly on their wedding invitations that they were having professional photographers present and asked people not to take pictures or video with their cell phones. Bravo! The people who attended were fully present for the ceremony and the reception and allowed us the room to take photos without hoards of people with cell phones trying to get our shots. The ones we planned, posed, and executed for the newly married couple. Last month we photographed a different wedding and the cell phones were as an extra appendage to nearly everyone there! And the worst? Someone sharing with me, the photos that they took with their cell phone of the happily married couple in the poses that we had just finished setting up and taking! So, I am sending out a message to All Brides To Be: Say NO! To Cell Phones at Your Wedding! It’s okay, those who love you will understand and will respect you more for it and your photographer will Thank You!
N&N Photography was recently hired to photograph a child’s first birthday party. A three hour event. They asked for a video of the cake cutting and cake smashing. And photos of the families as they came in and candid photos of the event in full swing. We show up and it is a Beautiful Indian Family with a sweet beautiful one year old boy. The birthday boy. A huge rented hotel ballroom with a dance floor, a clown face painting and making balloon animals, a DJ playing Indian dance music, decorated photo backdrops and props. Women all dressed in their gorgeous colorful Saris and the men dressed all in suits and dress shoes. Formal dress. 75 to 100 of them. Family? yes. Friends? yes. We took it all in and got our needed equipment and lenses out and ready and made our way around the crowd. Into the last hour of the 3 hours we spent with this family, I personally began to feel an honor within me of being a part of this event and taking the photographs of this family and their family and friends. I was also proud to be able to witness this culture, traditions, dances, and dress. It was Amazing and I loved it! Thank you for the opportunity to learn and grow and be a part of your special event!
“Is there such a thing as a perfect portrait? And if you mastered it, then what else is there to master, if perfect portraiture is your goal? You can pick out your favorite artist by their work, their style, their light. My goal as a photographer is to find mine. What is my look, my style, what defines my work? What sets my photography apart? What do I create that is different, valuable, desired? How do I define my style to myself and to the world? ”
“I feel my true love for photography and the creative soul within me behind the camera is the God-given gift that will lead me to the definition of what my perfect portrait looks like.” ~ Nichole Whitburn, N&N Photography
